Steel structure Warehouse G+M Revit 3D BIM model

Loads combinations for steel structure according to ASCE (American standard)

The loads combinations are combinations of load cases for which the structure is designed and checked.

On this page you can find the loads combinations for steel structure using Allowable Stress Design ASD and Load and Resistance Factor Design LRFD ready for using, generated according to ASCE 7-05 and ASCE 7-10 considering the dead loads and varying loads (live, wind and climatic) and accidental (earthquake).

Loads cases considered :

  • D : dead load

  • L : live load

  • Lr : roof live load

  • S : snow load

  • R : rain load

  • W : wind load

  • E : earthquake load

According to ASCE 7-05

ASD   ASCE 7-05

1) D
2) D + L
3) D + (Lr or S or R)
4) D + 0.75 L + 0.75 (Lr or S or R)
5) D + (W or 0.7 E)
6) D + 0.75 (W or 0.7E) + 0.75 L + 0.75 (Lr or S or R)
7) 0.6 D + W
8) 0.6 D + 0.7 E

LRFD   ASCE 7-05

1) 1.4 D
2) 1.2 D + 1.6 L + 0.5 (Lr or S or R)
3) 1.2 D + 1.6(Lr or S or R) + (ψ*L or 0.8W)
4) 1.2 D + 1.6 W + ψ*L + 0.5 (Lr or S or R)
5) 1.2 D + E + ψ*L + 0.2 S
6) 0.9 D + 1.6 W
7) 0.9 D + E

ψ = 0.5 if L ≤ 100 Psf (4.79 KN ⁄ m2)
ψ = 1.0 if L > 100 Psf (4.79 KN ⁄ m2)
ψ = 1.0 for garages or areas occupied as places of public assembly.

Note

   regarding the wind case, you have always to think to consider positive and negative case, means pressure/suction loading
